Terms of Service
Last updated: August 17, 2026
PLEASE READ THESE TERMS CAREFULLY. THEY CONTAIN IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS ABOUT AI-GENERATED CONTENT (SECTION 3), A DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES (SECTION 7), A LIMITATION OF LIABILITY (SECTION 8), AN ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND RELEASE (SECTION 6), AND A BINDING ARBITRATION CLAUSE WITH A CLASS-ACTION WAIVER (SECTION 17) THAT AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.
1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding legal agreement between you and the operator of ethan.bible and tinlanh.vn, including their related applications, subdomains, APIs, and installable apps (collectively, the "Service," "we," "our," or "us"). By accessing or using the Service in any way — including sending a message to Ethan, our AI companion ("Ethan" or "Ethan AI") — you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not access or use the Service.
We may modify these Terms at any time by posting a revised version at this page. Your continued use of the Service after any modification constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. It is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically.
2. Description of the Service
The Service is a free, faith-based platform provided for personal, non-commercial use, including: Bible reading and study tools; Ethan, an AI-powered conversational companion; audio narration; hymn and worship resources; reading plans; groups and community features; kids' content; a church directory; and related articles and tools.
The Service is offered from a Protestant Evangelical (Tin Lành) perspective. Content reflects that tradition and is provided for devotional and educational purposes; it is not the official doctrine of any denomination, church, or organization.
3. AI-Generated Content — Critical Disclaimers
Ethan is an artificial-intelligence system. It is not a human being, not a pastor, not clergy, not a counselor, and not a licensed professional of any kind. By using the Service you acknowledge and agree to all of the following:
- AI output can be wrong. AI language models generate responses probabilistically and can produce output that is inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, offensive, or entirely fabricated ("hallucinations") — including misquoted or misattributed Bible verses, incorrect theology, incorrect facts, incorrect translations of original-language (Hebrew/Greek) words, and unsound advice — even when the output sounds confident, cites sources, or claims to have verified itself.
- No reliance. AI output is provided for informational and devotional purposes only. You agree not to rely on any AI output as a sole or primary basis for any decision, and to independently verify anything that matters to you. Scripture quotations should be verified against a printed or officially published Bible; doctrinal questions should be brought to your own pastor or church.
- Not professional advice. Nothing produced by the Service constitutes medical, mental-health, legal, financial, tax, immigration, safety, or other professional advice, and no professional–client, counselor–counselee, clergy–penitent, fiduciary, or confidential relationship is created by your use of the Service. Always seek the advice of qualified professionals.
- Not a substitute for pastoral care. Ethan may discuss faith and reference Scripture, but it cannot replace a real church community, pastoral counsel, ordinances/sacraments, or human fellowship, and it has no spiritual authority.
- No discernment of spiritual experience. Ethan has no ability to discern, test, authenticate, or confirm anyone's spiritual experience. Where it comments on a dream, a vision, a sign, an impression, a prompting, a healing, an answered prayer, or whether God is speaking to you, leading you, withholding something from you, or at work in your circumstances, that is generated text — it is not discernment, revelation, prophecy, interpretation, or confirmation, and it is not a judgement that any experience is or is not from God, however confidently or warmly it is worded. Do not treat it as such, and do not make any decision about your health, safety, medical care, relationships, education, or future in reliance on it. Bring such matters to your own pastor and to mature believers who know you, and seek qualified medical attention for any physical symptom — including changes to your vision, hearing, sleep, perception, or thinking — regardless of any spiritual meaning you or Ethan may attach to it.
- Personalization is automated. Features such as memory, suggestions, reminders, reading plans, notes, highlights, email, and family features are automated outputs of the same AI systems and carry the same risk of error. Ethan may also state that it has carried out an action for you — that it saved a note or a highlight, remembered something, sent an email, set a reminder, or started a plan — when that action did not occur, occurred differently, or did not save. We do not guarantee that any action described in a chat reply was actually carried out; check the relevant page of the Service yourself and keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.
- Generated files are AI output too. Documents, presentations, outlines, images, and any other file the Service builds for you are produced by the same AI systems and carry the same risk of error — including Scripture that is misquoted, altered, incomplete, invented, or labelled with a translation it is not, and wording that differs from what a chat reply showed you. No file is reviewed by a human before it reaches you, and a file you asked to be corrected or regenerated may contain the same or different errors. If you print, publish, distribute, teach, preach, broadcast, or otherwise pass such a file to anyone else, you are responsible for checking every quotation and statement in the file itself beforehand, and you do so as your own work and your own statement, not ours.
- Statements about the Service are not ours. Ethan may also describe the Service itself — what a feature is, where content shown to you comes from, which page or control to use, what has been saved, what a limit is, or who can see what you write. Those descriptions are generated the same way as any other AI output, are frequently inaccurate, and are not representations, warranties, or commitments by us. They form no part of these Terms, do not modify these Terms or our Privacy Policy, and create no right, entitlement, or expectation. How the Service actually works, and how your information is actually handled, are stated only by the Service's own pages, these Terms, and the Privacy Policy; where a chat reply differs from those, those govern. Check the relevant page, or contact us, before relying on anything Ethan says about the Service.
- Not a finding about anyone. Ethan may discuss people, relationships, churches, and disputes that you describe to it, but it does not investigate, cannot know what actually happened, and hears only what you tell it. Nothing it produces is a finding, verdict, judgment, accusation, endorsement, or exoneration concerning any person, congregation, or organization. Do not rely on it, quote it, forward it, or present it to others as counsel, evidence, testimony, or authority in any dispute, complaint, disciplinary or safeguarding process, or decision affecting another person. If you share output with anyone, you do so on your own responsibility and as your own statement, not ours.
- No offer of assistance, goods, or services. Ethan may express sympathy, ask what you need, or produce language that reads like an offer of help. The Service provides no money, food, transport, housing, employment, equipment, medical care, legal representation, benevolence fund, or other material, financial, or charitable assistance of any kind, and it cannot arrange, obtain, refer, coordinate, or forward a request for any such assistance on your behalf or on behalf of anyone else. Nothing Ethan says or appears to promise is an offer, undertaking, guarantee, or commitment by us or by any third party, and it creates no obligation, entitlement, or expectation of assistance. Do not delay seeking help, and do not make any decision about your finances, work, housing, health, or welfare, in reliance on anything the Service says. If you are in need, please turn to your own church, your family, and the relief services available where you live.
- Machine-translated Bible versions. Some Bible versions offered in the reader are generated by machine translation rather than produced, reviewed, or approved by any translator, publisher, or Bible society. They are named "Ethan" and carry a notice on every chapter saying so. Like all AI output they may contain mistranslation, omitted or altered wording, doctrinal error, or passages rendered in a language other than the one on the label, and they are not a published, authorized, or authoritative edition of Scripture. Do not rely on them for study, teaching, preaching, quotation, memorization, publication, or any other purpose that matters; read the versions credited to their publishers, or a printed Bible, instead.
- Automatically generated titles and labels. The Service also generates short text about your own content — conversation titles, summaries, headings, and similar labels — using the same AI systems. That text can be inaccurate, nonsensical, in the wrong language, or unintentionally inappropriate, and it is not a statement, characterization, or opinion of ours about you or about what you wrote.
- Not instructions for dangerous work. Ethan may respond to questions about repairing, installing, testing, dismantling, or operating physical equipment — electrical and mains-powered devices, appliances, gas, fuel, vehicles, tools, chemicals, or work at height — and may describe a procedure, name a part, state a voltage, pressure, measurement, pin position, or wiring colour, tell you what a reading means, or appear to confirm that a step is safe. It cannot see your equipment, does not know its condition, and on these subjects it is as confidently wrong as on any other. Nothing it produces is a safety assessment, an instruction, or a certification that any procedure, part, tool, or condition is safe. Do not carry out a physical procedure because Ethan described it, and never work on energized, pressurized, or fueled equipment on the basis of anything the Service says — engage a qualified professional. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law you assume all risk of death, personal injury, injury to any other person, fire, and damage to property arising out of any such work.
- You are responsible for your use. Any action you take — or refrain from taking — based on output from the Service is taken solely at your own risk and is solely your responsibility. This applies equally to output you pass on: if you teach, preach, publish, print, broadcast, post, or otherwise convey any output of the Service to anyone else — whether it is a chat reply, a file, or text the Service drafted, edited, repeated back, or told you was correct — you are responsible for checking every quotation and statement in it beforehand, and you do so as your own work and your own statement, not ours.
4. Not an Emergency or Crisis Service
The Service is not an emergency service, suicide-prevention service, or crisis-intervention service and is not monitored for emergencies. If you are in danger, experiencing a medical or mental-health emergency, or having thoughts of harming yourself or others, do not use the Service — immediately call your local emergency number (for example 911 in the United States, 112 in the EU, 113/115 in Vietnam) or a crisis hotline (for example 988 in the United States), and contact a trusted person. Any supportive language the AI produces in such situations is automated text, not professional intervention, and must not be relied upon.
5. Eligibility and Children
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. Parents and guardians who enable child or family features are solely responsible for supervising their children's use of the Service and for all activity under their family accounts.
6. Assumption of Risk and Release
Assumption of risk. You understand the nature of AI-generated content described in Section 3 and voluntarily choose to use the Service with full knowledge of those risks. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you assume all risks arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, including the risk that AI output is wrong, harmful, offensive, or misleading.
Release. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you — on behalf of yourself and your heirs, executors, and assigns — irrevocably release, waive, and discharge us and our owners, operators, founders, officers, directors, employees, contractors, volunteers, licensors, and service providers (the "Released Parties") from any and all claims, demands, losses, damages, and causes of action of every kind, whether known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen, arising out of or in any way connected with the Service or any content it produces, including any AI error or hallucination. If you are a California resident, you expressly waive California Civil Code §1542 with respect to this release; if you reside elsewhere, you waive any analogous protection to the fullest extent permitted.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT, FEATURES, AND OUTPUT (INCLUDING ALL AI-GENERATED OUTPUT) ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. NO ADVICE OR INFORMATION, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, OBTAINED FROM THE SERVICE (INCLUDING FROM ETHAN) CREATES ANY WARRANTY NOT EXPRESSLY STATED IN THESE TERMS. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU; IN THAT CASE THEY APPLY TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW: (a) IN NO EVENT WILL THE RELEASED PARTIES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR EMOTIONAL OR SPIRITUAL HARM, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR ANY OUTPUT IT PRODUCES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES AND EVEN IF A REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE; (b) THE RELEASED PARTIES' TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (i) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE (THE SERVICE IS FREE, SO THIS AMOUNT IS TYPICALLY ZERO) OR (ii) TEN U.S. DOLLARS (US$10); AND (c) THESE LIMITS APPLY REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY (CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU; IN THAT CASE LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED.
9. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use or misuse of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right; (c) content you submit to the Service; or (d) any dispute between you and any third party relating to the Service.
10. Acceptable Use
You agree that you will not:
- use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purpose;
- attempt to manipulate, "jailbreak," or prompt the AI into producing content that violates these Terms, misquotes Scripture, or bypasses safety measures — nor rely on or distribute any such output;
- harass, threaten, defame, or harm others, or submit content that is illegal, infringing, hateful, sexually explicit, or exploits minors;
- scrape, harvest, bulk-download, or programmatically extract content or data from the Service, or use output to train competing AI systems, except as we expressly permit in writing;
- probe, disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, or attempt unauthorized access to the Service, its accounts, or its infrastructure;
- impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation, or use the Service to send spam or unsolicited communications;
- use the Service where prohibited by law, or in any high-risk context (medical decisions, emergencies, legal filings, financial transactions, or similar) in reliance on AI output.
11. Accounts, Suspension, and Termination
You are responsible for your account, for keeping your credentials secure, and for all activity under your account. We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to all or part of the Service — and may remove any content — at any time, with or without notice, for any reason or no reason, including suspected violation of these Terms, without any liability to you. You may stop using the Service, or request account deletion, at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 17, and 18) survive.
12. Your Content
You retain ownership of content you submit to the Service (messages, notes, uploads, posts). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, display, and transmit that content solely to operate, secure, moderate, and improve the Service (including quality review of AI conversations and abuse prevention), consistent with our Privacy Policy. You represent that you have all rights needed to submit your content and that it does not violate any law or third-party right. We may remove any content at our discretion.
13. Intellectual Property
The Service — including its software, design, branding ("Ethan," "Ethan.Bible," logos), and content we create — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms. Bible translations are the property of their respective copyright holders and are used under their licenses; your use of Scripture content must comply with those licenses.
Ethan can also quote, translate, summarize, or adapt material that belongs to someone else — song lyrics, poetry, books, articles, images, and other third-party works — including when you ask it to rewrite or build on something you supply. We claim no rights in those works, we grant you none, and we make no representation that any output is original, cleared, or free of third-party rights. Before you copy, print, publish, perform, record, distribute, or otherwise use output that reproduces or is derived from someone else's work, it is your responsibility to confirm you have the rights to do so, and any file the Service generates for you carries that same responsibility. If you own rights in material you believe the Service has reproduced or made available improperly, contact us at [email protected] with enough detail to identify the work and the material; we may review and remove or restrict such material at our discretion.
14. Third-Party Services and Links
The Service relies on third-party providers (for example AI-model providers, hosting, Bible-text APIs, video conferencing) and may link to third-party websites, churches, or resources. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, content, or practices, and a link or listing (including in the church directory) is not an endorsement. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.
15. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it, and is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please do not submit information you are not willing to have processed by AI systems, and never submit someone else's personal information without their permission.
16. Service Changes and Availability
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service (including Ethan, any feature, or any content) at any time, with or without notice, without liability to you. We do not guarantee that the Service, or any content or data (including chat history, notes, or memory), will be available, preserved, or retrievable.
17. Dispute Resolution — Binding Arbitration and Class-Action Waiver
Informal resolution first. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at [email protected] with a written description of the dispute and to attempt in good faith to resolve it informally for at least sixty (60) days.
Binding arbitration. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms that is not resolved informally shall be resolved exclusively by final and binding individual arbitration administered by a recognized arbitration provider (for U.S. residents, JAMS or the American Arbitration Association under their consumer rules), rather than in court. The arbitration shall be conducted in English, on an individual basis, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court where permitted.
Class-action and jury waiver. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU AND WE EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY AND THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY CLASS, COLLECTIVE, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. All claims must be brought in a party's individual capacity only.
Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [email protected] within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms, stating your name and that you opt out of arbitration; opting out does not affect any other provision of these Terms.
Time limit. To the maximum extent permitted by law, any claim must be filed within one (1) year after it accrues, or it is permanently barred.
18. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Service are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence applies. Subject to Section 17, any proceeding that may be brought in court shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows the latest revision. Material changes take effect when posted (or as otherwise stated). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
20. Severability; Waiver; Assignment; Entire Agreement
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, it shall be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions remain in full force — except that if the class-action waiver in Section 17 is held unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim (and only that claim) shall proceed in court rather than arbitration. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a reorganization, transfer, or successor of the Service. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any posted policies, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
21. No Third-Party Beneficiaries; Force Majeure
Except for the Released Parties (who may enforce the protections granted to them), these Terms create no third-party rights. We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including outages of third-party AI providers, hosting or network failures, acts of God, war, or governmental action.
22. Language and Translations
These Terms are drafted in English. Any translation (including in-app summaries in other languages) is provided for convenience only; if there is any conflict, the English version controls.
