Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
This page is for people in Washington, Nevada and anywhere else with a similar law. Our full policy is on the Privacy page.
What we may collect
We do not ask for health information, but you may choose to share it with Ethan. That includes:
- Anything you write or say about your physical or mental health, medicine, treatment, pregnancy, addiction or feelings.
- What Ethan remembers about you, if you are not in Safe Mode. You can see and remove it on your profile.
- A short note of your mood, worked out from your words, if you are not in Safe Mode.
- A count of turns that showed signs of self-harm, and a sealed copy of such a conversation if it is deleted.
We do not use your voice's tone, your face or your typing to work out how you feel, and we do not use precise location for this.
Why
To answer you, to keep people safe, including showing crisis help, and to meet the law. We do not use it for advertising.
Where it comes from
From you, and from the automated checks that read what you write.
Who receives it
- AI services that generate replies and check safety: Google, Anthropic, GitHub Copilot and TypeSafe.
- Companies that host or carry our service, such as Cloudflare.
- Site administrators, who may review conversations.
- Authorities, where the law requires it or someone is in danger.
We have no affiliates and we do not sell this data. Google's free plan carries all voice conversations and some written replies. On that plan Google may use what is sent to improve its products and AI, and its staff may read it. In Safe Mode, which has no voice, Anthropic writes every reply. Please do not share anything you would not want handled this way.
Your rights
You can ask us to confirm whether we hold your consumer health data, give you a copy, list who received it, delete it, or stop using it. Write to [email protected]. We answer within 45 days. If we say no, reply to that email to appeal. If you are still not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.
